British Deaf Association Counselling Service (BDACS) (stand no. tbc)

The BDACS evolved from an initial project in 1987 to provide HIV/AIDS services for the Deaf community. Since then there have been a number of changes in terms of the focus of services we provide.

The aim of the service is to meet the therapeutic needs of profoundly Deaf British Sign Language (BSL) users, Deafblind (adults/children), Family members/carers (Deaf/hearing), Deaf children, Traumatically Deafened, Hard of Hearing and Tinnitus sufferers.

We accept self referrals, referrals from GP's, employers or other agencies and offer a range of therapeutic interventions, including couple counselling and group work.

Play Therapy UK (PTUK) (stand no. 4)

Play Therapy UK (PTUK) is the largest professional organisation in the United Kingdom for Play Therapists and practitioners of therapeutic play. In a self regulating profession it sets high ethical and practice standards to protect the children, their carers and its Members.

Its sister organisation the Academy of Play and Child Psychotherapy (APAC) provides a full range of play therapy training including post graduate Certificate, Diploma (accredited by BACP) and MA in Practice Based Play Therapy courses, in a collaborative partnership with Christ Church Canterbury University. Over 300 students are currently enrolled at six centres throughout the UK, Ireland, France and Canada.

The Association for Humanistic Psychology in Britain publishes the journal Self & Society, containing articles, reviews and letters on the application of the humanistic paradigm within society. It acts as a forum for those nurturing growth and development within individuals, communities and the workplace, and is thus relevant to all therapists and to a wider readership. The practitioners' body, UKAHPP, accredits therapists in a wide range of humanistic modalities, leading to UKCP registration as psychotherapists and counsellors. It provides ethical codes for those working in medicine, education, management and social work as well as therapeutic practice. Both associations run workshops and conferences.
